Description

8th Ashen Shrikes piece.

---------BACK TO LORE---------
High ranking officer, stationed at the capital ship that oversees the servitors and crew that handle all ship communication, managing that commands and instructions are delivered to every member of the ship's crew as well as coordinating with the other ship.
-----------------
It's been about 12 hours into her shift. Nothing. There is nothing going on in this part of the sector. Or at least thats what Observations tell her. That they are still in the sector. Doesnt look like any part of the sector that they've seen before. There arent anything recognisable. In fact, there isnt anything.

12 hours ago, she was interrupted in the middle of her scheduled sleep by a servitor, informing her that she is needed on bridge and that there was an emergency ork void vessel sighting. Of course, she hurriedly got dressed arrived at her station on bridge. Of course this was exciting. It isn't everyday when the fleet sees action, let alone an ORK sighting. Anything to break the tedium of every day fleet life, making routine status checks, making routine reports about the fleet performing routine patrols. Anything but the routine. And it wasnt like her ship does anything. It's just mainly a support ship for the flagship and the attack frigate.

Well that was 12 hours ago. And now she would have preferred if she had got to finish her 3 hour sleep. The past 12 hours could really been handled by a junior officer. There are barely any communication chatter because there is nothing going on.

It's clear that there is no ork void vessel around. Like mentioned, there is NOTHING around. not even communication relay stations. And Barely getting feedback from the nearest hab planet so thats even LESS communcation she has to handle. She would have thought that the captain would have called it quits by now. But then again, the captain isnt really paying much attention. Occasionally, the he will ask for a report. Just out of sheer boredom. To which she would report back to him in rapidfire...which she really doubts he understands fully. She still gotta put an effort into it because of the XO.

XO was wide awake, staying vigilant, as usual. Has been for the past 12 hours plus however many hours he was awake before while she was on her last shift.

A whole lot of nothing.

Then suddenly a blinding light from the right as fleet's flagship erupted in flames and turning all the pictscreens in front of her into a kaleidoscope of alarm lights. And then the flood of communications began, reports on the ships status, reports on the flagships's status, head of the each section asking for commands, relaying commands from the captain to each section, relaying communcations from fleet commander to ship commander. And all in this pandemonium, the fleet's third ship could not be reached. Nothing has been heard from them. No status report, no observation report, no reports on what they were doing. Nothing. Just silence. Both Navigations and Observations has reported that the ship hasnt changed its course in any way or even react in any way.Maybe it was for the best. Honestly it was already reaching her limits on what she could handle.

It wasnt long before she heard the reports of mutiny from the flagship. Mutiny by WHO? No words on that. Not that she had any time for that. Reports of hull breech. Reports of boarding torpedos. Each step of the way, she was reporting to the captain who was now wide awake. Again relaying the captain's orders and relaying the reports back. Armsmen on the ships were already setting up, ready to repel the boarders. but who were these boarders? Is it really the orks? An eldar ambush? Pirates? Pirates? in this this part of the sector. with nothing to pillage? not likely. who?

To her shock, it was the Astartes themselves. Not the Traitor Astartes of the ruinous powers but their own chapter Astartes.

She fearfully reported to the captain, asking for further instructions. But even before the captain could part his lips to respond to her, a loud blast jolted the whole room and the back of the captain's head blew apart. And when the body toppled over. standing over it was none other than the XO with his sidearm smoking

"ALL CREW MEMBERS CEASEFIRE. CEASEFIRE NOW!!!"

Features
- Enhanced Dataslate, carried by her befitting her status as the head Communications officer. Displaying whatever text or numerical reports she might receive on top of the communications received by her subordinates as well as being able to issue commands back through the same method.
- Cognitive Bionics, array of bionics implanted directly into her head that helps data process at a mass quantity that is sometimes required. Also has a minor upgrade that can help ward off drowsiness through minute electric stimuli.
- A bone whistle, a simple but utilitarian mark of her office. Emits a high frequency whistling sound that even a dull servitor can hear. Used to quickly bring attention the entirety of the bridge where as her voice alone can't. She normally just ends up using the vox connected to the system instead but its still nice to have it, as said, as a mark of her office.
- A knife in boots. Cos in the grim darkness of 40k, even a communications officer needs a weapon.

ERMAHGAHD ITS A FEEEEMALE
ERMAHGAHHHHHHD BOOOBS

Another more "civilian" one. Goes well with the fleet commander as almost as second in command relaying communications. Handles the plethora of comm chatter to boil it down to a quick proper report that the captain can make decisions on.

Just wanted to draw another naval uniform real quick to see I got the style down. Which i think I have because this sure took way less time than the last one.

I designed the "PDA", which it basically is, by looking at space marine auspex as well as whatever the new Primaris Marines have on their wrist. I think it turned out pretty ok. Looks 40k enough, which is always my worry.

Once again. I didnt really have a backstory planned much for this one. just an example of a ship officer but i found an opportunity to tell more of the backstory and through the eyes of another member of the crew. so...yeah. another wall of text.
